A couple of other interesting 1950s sci-fi films with a similar premise to “The Monolith Monsters” — the threat is neither man nor alien nor beast, but a mindless thing that keeps growing and growing — are “The Magnetic Monster” and “Kronos.”

I notice too that the proposed director was Jonathan Hensleigh, who wrote “Armageddon” and hence should be slapped. He also wrote “The Saint”. “The Punisher”, “Jumanji” and “Die Hard With a Vengeance”, all of which were tolerable if not as good as they should have been — especially “The Saint”, which was NOT very Saint-like. But then he wrote and directed “Welcome to the Jungle”, which I thought was a hoot!
