While making Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus, “a few nutballs” over at The Asylum decided to create a submission for The Doritos’ Crash The Superbowl Ad Campaign Contest as a tie-in with their sequel to the infamous Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus. Undead Backbrain has been given this exclusive preview:

Six finalists will be announced on 3 January 2011, at which point voting to name the grand prize winner will begin.

Kaiju Tourism

Rumour has it there has always been a certain competitive quality of the “casting” of cities in Godzilla movies, with local tourism councils keen to have their city trashed by the King of the Monsters, all in the cause of highlighting its charms as the monsters annihilate them. With the Big G currently in retirement, the City of Hakodate in Japan has decided to create their own kaiju advertising collateral in a series of tourism videos based on the premise that people will definitely want to come to places where they might witness an apocalyptic battle between gargantuan opponents. At the very least the videos can show people what local landmarks are likely to appeal to city-trashing monsters.

In the video below, we are told that, Hakodate is the number one city they would most like to invade. So you never know your luck (survey data based on 100 alien respondents).

More Monstrous Ads

I haven’t posted any giant monster ads for a while, so here are a few I’ve just stumbled across.

This first one not only has a Godzilla-esque monster, but it is done using stop-motion animation!

This one features King Kong … though with a last minute cameo by … a friend. Unfortunately I don’t know what “the friend” says. Anyone want to guess?

Here’s a cute one featuring a pseudo-Godzilla from Thailand. Interesting SFX, too.

I take it that this one is a Japanese ad for Godzilla in a theme park:

And below there are a collection of ads for milk in the same series as the first one above (I feel my lactose intolerance starting to boil up). These don’t feature giant monsters but gormless, out-of-condition Neanderthals and prehistoric monsters of various kinds. In the one below, I’m not sure what the message is. Surely drinking more milk will make the Neanderthal even heavier?
