Q & A
Daikaiju! story: "Daihaiku / Haikaiju"

When did your interest in daikaiju and other giant monsters begin? What inspired it?

I blame Robert Hood.
He started it; wasn't me.
Pen too.  He's no good.

Perhaps you can tell us something of your career to date.

There's eighteen novels
and sixty-odd short stories.
Fifteen springs well spent.

Where does your fascination for giant monsters come from (if you have one)?

The scale of those scales!
We come to gawp, and die with
one sweep of a tail.

Different people have different ideas as to why the giant monster genre holds such power? What is your take on it?

On small things, sometimes,
does the fate of a world turn:
this dropped coin; that kiss.

In times of need, though,
there is still room for greatness.
And a rubber suit.

What lies ahead for you?

I see more writing,
and study, and finally
spring in Nagoya.
