Steve Latshaw) &#8212; the sequel to the 1959 exploitation horror cheapie, <em>The Killer Shrews<\/em> &#8212; when the first image released of the new killer shrews turned up in my in-box, courtesy of\u00a0 Scott Romine and James and Dorothy Best. It shows a creature that is utterly different from the dashshund-in-fur critters that were bodgied up for the first film.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/01.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10561 aligncenter\" title=\"01\" src=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/01.png 960w, https:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/01-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As giant mutant shrews go, it looks great, doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p>Certainly as compared to:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/killershrews4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10562 aligncenter\" title=\"killershrews4\" src=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/killershrews4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"459\" height=\"344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/killershrews4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/killershrews4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 459px) 100vw, 459px\" \/><\/a>As you no doubt know by now, the new film stars James Best, who was the lead in the original film all those years ago. He&#8217;s playing the same character &#8212; years later, as he unwillingly returns to the Killer Shrew island and finds himself again facing the toothy monstrosities. For a full synopsis, check out this <a href=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/index.php\/2011\/01\/31\/return-of-the-killer-shrews\/\" target=\"_blank\">earlier Backbrain article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the first film, this one is reputed to be much more ambitious, aspiring to much better production values and a bigger budget.
