Giant ants on a rampage!<\/p>\n

No, it’s not the 1950s’ classic monster film Them!<\/em> It’s a popular Amiga computer game that was brought out by Cinemaware in 1989 — and it’s soon to be reborn as a Finnish feature film from Nordic Genre Invasion! and Roger Pictures, directed by <\/span><\/span><\/span>Marko M\u00e4kilaakso<\/span><\/span><\/span> (War of the Dead<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n

When asked about the proposed film version of It Came from the Desert, <\/strong>director Marko M\u00e4kilaakso commented that he couldn’t say much at the moment, but shooting is planned for Almeria, Spain during spring 2015. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>He described the film as “a desert, motocross action, horror, comedy with giant spiders!” —\u00a0 the story of Brian and Lukas\u2019 wild adventure in the desert.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But what about the ants — the Them!<\/em>-inspired antagonists of the Amiga game?<\/p>\n

Backbrain interviewer Avery Guerra queried whether the giant ants from the original were being totally replaced by giant spiders. Replied\u00a0M\u00e4kilaakso enigmatically: “Well, yes and no regarding the ants, but I will leave it at that for now!”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It Came from the Desert <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em>is to be be written by Hank Woon Jr and Marko M\u00e4kilaakso and produced by Teemu Virta.\u00a0 No cast has been announced just yet. Its projected release date is late 2015 or 2016.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
