{"id":165,"date":"2007-12-19T10:26:50","date_gmt":"2007-12-19T00:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/index.php\/2007\/12\/19\/godzilla-1998-designs\/"},"modified":"2007-12-19T10:26:50","modified_gmt":"2007-12-19T00:26:50","slug":"godzilla-1998-designs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/index.php\/2007\/12\/19\/godzilla-1998-designs\/","title":{"rendered":"Godzilla 1998 Designs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some of Tatopoulos Studio&#8217;s design elements for the 1998 film &#8212; a film I rather like, not as a <em>Godzilla<\/em> remake but as a remake of <em>The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms<\/em>, which it more closely resembles. <em>The Beast<\/em> was an inspiration for the original <em>Gojira<\/em>, of course, but the changes brought to it by Ishiro Honda and crew were crucial for the development of Godzilla as one of the 20th century&#8217;s most powerful cinematic icons &#8212; and it was these that Emmerich ignored. Still, as a giant monster movie, <em>Godzilla<\/em> (1998) was spectacular enough and Patrick Tatopoulos did a great design job on the film.
