Me? Lewis Carroll’s Alice books are among my favourite things in the world and Tim Burton is a filmmaker whose works fascinate me even when they don’t work — except, of course, for the abysmal Planet of the Apes remake, which I choose to believe was taken out of Burton’s hands during production. About casting Wasikowska in the lead role, Burton commented: “We met a lot of people, but she just had that certain kind of emotional toughness, standing her ground in a way that makes her kind of an older person with a younger person’s mentality.”

The fact that the film will feature “the usual Burton-esque ghoulishness” is no surprise and perfectly appropriate, given the amount of dark, unsettling absurdity that is inherent in the Alice books.

Currently in post-production, the film is due to be released on 5th March 2010.

Source: USAtoday.com.
