{"id":621,"date":"2008-04-30T15:11:23","date_gmt":"2008-04-30T05:11:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/index.php\/2008\/04\/30\/american-tokusatsu\/"},"modified":"2008-04-30T15:19:08","modified_gmt":"2008-04-30T05:19:08","slug":"american-tokusatsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/index.php\/2008\/04\/30\/american-tokusatsu\/","title":{"rendered":"American Tokusatsu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Japanese genre to meet with an enthusiast&#8217;s attempt to replicate it for the West is the kaiju-tokusatsu, giant-monster vs superhero genre of such TV series as <em>Ultraman<\/em>. <em>Zero Trooper-F<\/em> is a 39-minute film directed by an indie filmmaker from Madison, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>The following description is from the <a href=\"http:\/\/robojapan.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/ultraman-clone-zero-trooper-f-defends.html\" target=\"_blank\">Robo Japan<\/a> website:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A certified genius, and local celebrity, named Dr. Abrams (played by Rob O\u2019Brien) has developed a special device that can be used to turn an elite group of soldiers, called the &#8220;Zero Troopers&#8221;, into giant sized, Power Ranger-like, defenders.<\/p>\n<p>While Greenside City, a town that looks amazingly like Madison, Wisconsin, is being attacked by a giant white, &#8220;fuzzy-wuzzy&#8221; monster, the Good Doctor&#8217;s invention is put into use. A giant Zero Trooper appears and begins a knock-down fight with the monster. In a surprise move, Dr. Abrams quits the defense force, right in the middle of the battle, and goes in search of his ex-girlfriend, who he discovers has already moved on in her life with another man.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/zertrooperf042808.jpg\" title=\"Zero trooper-F pic\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/zertrooperf042808.jpg\" alt=\"Zero trooper-F pic\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To date, the short film has only been available for viewing at film festivals, but hopefully a DVD release will eventuate at some point.<\/p>\n<p>Kaiju Search-Robot Avery also informs me that currently in production is <em>Greenside<\/em>, a feature-length sequel to <em>Zero Trooper-F<\/em>.  Below is a trailer, which, unfortunately, doesn&#8217;t include any kaiju! Looks good though.
