Amando de Ossorio proved it with his &#8220;Blind Dead&#8221; films and now <span name=\"intelliTxt\" id=\"intelliTXT\">Andreas Schnaas&#8217; gore-drenched <em>Don&#8217;t Wake the Dead<\/em> is set to re-enforce the idea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t Wake the Dead<\/strong> (Germany-2008; dir. <span name=\"intelliTxt\" id=\"intelliTXT\">Andreas Schnaas)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dont-wake-dead-poster.jpg\" title=\"Don\u2019t Wake the Dead poster\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dont-wake-dead-poster.jpg\" alt=\"Don\u2019t Wake the Dead poster\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the wake of an excellent new Indiana Jones blockbuster &#8212; <em>Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull<\/em> (US-2008; dir. Stephen Spielberg) &#8212; a bit of deliberately trashy, esoteric zombie horror can&#8217;t go astray.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span name=\"intelliTxt\" id=\"intelliTXT\">The plot involves a group of female art students who spend the night at an ancient castle. Unbeknownst to them, the palace has ties to the Templar Knights and Nazi occultism\u2014and when blood is spilled on the sacred ground, legions of the undead begin crawling up from its ancient cemeteries. From then on, it\u2019s schoolgirls fighting sword-wielding ghouls and bloodthirsty SS zombies, until a mysterious stranger with an unbelievable plethora of weapons arrives to help them out. (Writer <\/span><span name=\"intelliTxt\" id=\"intelliTXT\">Ted Geoghegan, quoted on <a href=\"http:\/\/fangoria.com\/news_article.php?id=6617\" target=\"_blank\">Fangoria.com<\/a>)<\/span><br \/>\n<span name=\"intelliTxt\" id=\"intelliTXT\"><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sounds like pure Euro-exploitation, time-shifted from the &#8217;80s &#8212; and who&#8217;s complaining?<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dont-wake-dead02.jpg\" title=\"Don\u2019t Wake the Dead pic 2\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/roberthood.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dont-wake-dead02.jpg\" alt=\"Don\u2019t Wake the Dead pic 2\" height=\"256\" width=\"378\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fangoria.com\/news_article.php?id=3893\" target=\"_blank\">Fangoria interview<\/a>, <span name=\"intelliTxt\" id=\"intelliTXT\">Geoghegan<\/span> commented: &#8220;<span name=\"intelliTxt\" id=\"intelliTXT\">The script doesn\u2019t take itself too seriously, but still has some solid, creepy scenes.
