Parodies of humanity? A mockery of childhood innocence? Things that appear human but aren’t? Tiny unnatural monsters that lurk in dark corners of the heart and mind? This is an ongoing list of movies and TV show episodes that feature dolls of various kinds that display unnatural life and (usually) an evil tendency. The list is in alphabetical order (ignoring initial articles).

A short video on 10 “real-life” cursed dolls:
Please men,
I ´d like to know where can i do get a copy of the movie “The living idol” MGM´s 1957 with Steve Forrest.
Would you please help me to find it? It is very very important to me.
Thks a lot,
bye
Paulo.
Sorry, Paulo, I can’t find any indication at all that it is available, certainly not commercially. I did a brief search of online streaming sites (legal) but couldn’t find it. Finding the film online would be your best bet at this stage, I reckon.
Great list of movies and great site. Just found it today.
great site! I would love to see a thumbnail or link to the dolls’ picture for each of the movies.
I am looking for a movie with a specific doll in it. The doll is dressed all in black with white collar and with cuffs. She has a very full head of curly white/blonde hair with a large white bow. The bow is on the back of her head. She has very circular rosey red cheaks on white painted face.
Any idea where this doll is from?
Thanks
I think the movie came out in the late 70’s or early 80’s, but do not remember the name, but I am trying to find out what it was. I do not think it was one of the Night Gallery episodes, but was “movie of the week” and all I can remember is this small live doll being locked in some room and the person trying to keep the door closed from the outside and the doll was taking a very long knife and running it under the door back and forth and trying to slash the person on the other side. I know this is not much to go on, but it scared the crap out of me then, and would like to find out the name of the movie.
Thank you for any help.
I was alos looking for the movie from the late 70s to early 80s with the doll in the room and he is looking under the door at the girl, I have seen it about 20 years ago and always remembered how creepy it was, of course I was 10 at the time, but it was a classic horror short film.
Tom

if you did would you please share with. and if any one eles knows don’t be shy to tell me . i would really like it.
I’m afraid it doesn’t ring any bells with me, Taylor. Sorry.
I’m looking for the name of a short that I saw on the Sci-fi channel around like 1999-2002, somewhere around there. There was a dude who kinda looked like vincent price, and he had this big mural of all these people on the wall, and one by one, they came alive out of the mural as dolls and left white imprints where they once were. Eventually theres like 30 little dolls trying to kill him and the leader of them chases him around with a knife, and the dolls are tiny, like 3-5 inches tall. I remember I was like 10 when I saw it, it was SOOO creepy!
@ KierinHyena: the movie your looking for is tales from the hood. Its one of the stories in the movie.
I remember that when i was small, i watched i strange killer doll movie. The thing that i still remember is only the beginning of the movie. 2 people -maybe cops- a woman and a man, get invited to a strange mansion. The owner of the mansion kill the man with chainsaw and turn the woman into one of the killer doll.
anyone know the title of the movie?
When I was a kid, there was a movie on TV–may have been a movie of the week; may have been an episode of a spooky TV show. This probably would have been in the early 80s. My sister would baby sit me on Friday nights, and, when she wasn’t watching _Dallas_, she’d watch scary movies and tell me I wasn’t supposed to pay attention.
Anyway, there’s this one scene that’s always stuck with me, and I wish I could contextualize it.
It was some kind of evil marionette story, probably similar to _Magic_, but I watched _Magic_ a few years ago and didn’t see a matching scene.
It’s in the archetype of the guy who can’t get a relationship because of the killer marionette/evil twin/etc.
So he’s watching TV with this girl he likes, and the dolls is jealous, and he’s trying to protect the girl from it.
He has to go to the bathroom or something and leaves the room. The puppet sneaks in while he’s gone, and attacks the girlfriend. On TV, at least, the scene showed the view from behind the couch, and you saw her legs and arms flailing and heard her screaming as the puppet attacked her.
I have looked up all sorts of movies and TV episodes in the genre and have not found any that have a scene like this in them.

Back in the mid 70’s, I saw a doll movie where the doll rises from a battlefield. An English officer brings the doll home to his daughter and the terror begins. I remember the evil doll attacking the small girl’s other doll. Any help with the title of the movie would be appreciated.
I watched a movie when i was a child. scared the crap out of me, all i remember though is a scene where the doll is chasing a little girl and her mother through a freezer like thing, I would really like to know which movie this is so i can watch it again!
Hi,
I’m another person looking for helping tracking down an obscure evil doll reference.
I was very young, it was on tv, and I was born in 1984, so I assume this film was made sometime in the 70’s. They also used that bright red corn syrup blood.
There was a beautiful woman in a white on a small white round platform. She was wearing black fishnet stockings. There were a bunch of dolls biting at her legs. I think there were people watching her from behind glass and/or released the dolls on her. She was screaming. When I look back now, it seems silly that she didn’t do anything to stop them. When I was a kid, I was horrified.
I think I’m looking for the same movie that Gadfly is looking for. Did the doll look like Ronald Reagan? And is there a closet scene where somebody gets decapitated with a machete that is laying down and all of the sudden the sharp end points up? Dude loses his balance and gets his head gone.
@Erin Wilber… The movie is called ‘Dolls’ made in 1987.
@Rob Grieco… That was a scene from ‘Night Gallery’ entitled, ‘The Doll’ made in 1971.

Hi does anyone know the film that ends with an old battered empty house/ mansion with a huge display cabinet of dolls/ puppets and they all get set on fire
It’s driving me mad!!
🙂
With such a wonderfully comprehensive list, I was surprised to see that the Canadian film, Pin (Sandor Stern 1988), was not featured.
@Erin Wilber – your description of the scene, apart from the white dress and the glass, also reminds me of the uber-camp sequence from Barbarella in which a group of children unleash their wind-up dolls on Jane Fonda. The dolls have jagged steel teeth that can be seen as their clockwork mouths slowly open and snap shut. As their jaws shut, the dolls emit a high-pitched squeal. At first Barbarella thinks the dolls are sweet, but as they slowly close in on her, she sees their evil intent and becomes increasingly concerned. Eventually the dolls are all over her, nipping away at her flesh and making holes in those marvellous fishnets while the children watch on, smiling with malicious delight. She is eventually saved by the local child-catcher who arrives just in time.
I’m trying to find a movie from maybe the 70s about somebody who opens up a box and removes what I think was a carved doll of some sort and it comes alive and stalks the person. Scared the crap out of me back then.
Found it. It’s part of the Trilogy of Terror movie. It would probably make me laugh now.
i watched a film with my sister about 10 years ago it was on normal television, we loved it but we missed the start and didnt catch the name, been looking for yearssss for the name nothing on google about it anywhere its as if it didnt exist! it was about a family that moved in to this gothic looking mansion with gargoyles on it, and there was a little girl that went into a bedroom and there was a doll on the bed, she took the doll blah blah blah doll obviously is evil! and starts to tell her to do things, and ends up getting her to brick her self in a wall, cant remember ins and outs! but any help for the name would be appreciated!!
Im trying to figure out a movie that i watched about 7 years or so ago .
Its about this married couple , and they have a baby which i believe was a boy . They get a doll for the baby (i cant remember where from) that happens to look like the baby . The doll is possessed or something and keeps making the woman believe that the doll is the real baby , and the baby is the doll . Her husband just thinks she’s crazy .
I remember that in one part of the movie she went to the grocery store . when she got back to her house she grabbed the baby and took it in the house , in the crib , while she put the groceries away . The baby was sleeping so she decided to take a nap as well . A few hours later , her husband came home from work and woke her up frantically because he didnt know where the baby was . The doll was in the crib under the blankets , and the baby was still in the car . They got into a fight about it , but made up later .
At the end , the woman got tired of her husband calling her crazy because of the doll . So in the middle of the night , she went outside with the doll and buried it far in the ground . Her husband stopped her at the door SCREAMING at her . She told him how the doll was evil and she went to bury it . . . but then she saw the doll in the crib . Turns out she buried her baby . Damn evil dolls .
Anyone know what movie im thinking of ? Id really like to watch it again .
Nice selection. But it’s missing a short Polish movie directed by Roman Polanski during the earlier stages of his career in the 50’s called “Lampa”. You can watch at YouTube. I Love it. I don’t think it’s the same movie @Amy Aitchison is referring to, but it ends with a fire as well.
There was a movie when I was real small from the late 70’s or early 80’s about a doll in a little black suit with a black bow tie i believe. I came to life an all I remember was that a woman was in the bath tub and it tried to kill her. Any ideas???
you for got my teacher ate my homework! lol i remember being scared of that as a child.. lol
The first Poltergeist movie had some scary doll scenes. The son had a clown doll, who eventually attacked him in his bedroom. Still scares me to this day.

Hi this is a very comprehensive list, but i’ve been trying to find a movie for ages and maybe you guys can help me.
I remember just a couple of scenes. In one a person finds the evil doll, it looked like a pierrot i think, inside a closet in the upper shelf, the doll falls down and the child asks to keep the doll i think.
In the other scene i vaguely remember that the doll was in a car and moved to make a phone call i think. I thought that was really weird.
Anyways the movie looked kinda old.
Maybe somebody knows the answer…

Please someone out there help me. I have searched for years for this doll movie i have no idea whats the name but i know its not “Dolls” or “tourist trap”. It is similar to dolls though either they copied or dolls copied in some ways. I remember it was some sort of hotel, mansion, or dorm. Most likely a mansion, it had lots of people staying there either for the night or weekend. There were several teenage girls. I remember 1 girl was kinda punk rockish she kept causing drama, she broke away from the crowd and started wandering around the house, messing with stuff, she ended up going in the attic for some reason i think to smoke a joint or cig and when she got up there, there was a life size doll sitting in a chair she got closer for a better look and the doll started 2 get up and come after her. She tried to run and every way she went was another life size doll. They killed the girl and she became 1 too. Everyone that went up in the attic was killed and turned into a doll. They would sit in chairs in the attic, But would come alive at night. There eyes were replaced with big white doll eyes and it looked like they were sewn up. Its way scarier than dolls and longer. I think it was an 80’s movie I was born in 82 but I remember watching it no later than 90. It could even be late 70’s it was in color. It maybe the same movie as JUMBO says: about the man inviting a couple to a mansion and killing the guy and turning the woman into a killer doll. I just don’t remember it all not sure if I even seen it all. I remember the dolls were walking around the place killing people and then dragging there bodies upstairs to the attic I think they ate people as well. I believe it was for a weekend or something because every night someone or a couple became missing. I do believe the owner knew about the killer dolls and kept giving people excuses to why the guest were all coming up missing. I remember some of the dolls were dressed like jazzy show tune singers, tight fitting satin with corset tops. After someone was killed they were turned into a doll that looked exactly like them. IDK!! I remember the main doll had a red dress and drk brown or black curly hair. All the dolls were girls though. Please does anyone know what I’m talking about its killing me no one knows what I’m talking about! and it’s frustrating! PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!! its one of the scariest doll movies I ever seen.
Goldie- I think the movie you are looking for is “Puppet Master”
I’ve been watching doll movies for a while. One I can’t get out of my head is one that I watched when I was very young. All I can remember is that there was only one doll and it was a girl. At the end there was a huge explosion. I know this isn’t much to go on but If you could help that’d be great. Thanks
Hi! The movie I’m looking for had a doll fished out of the ocean onto a big passenger ship. They thought it was a person, but just a doll that turned out to have evil powers. Creepy eyes etc. A flock of birds attacked the ship’s passengers. Possibly green parrots. We watched this movie in the early 80s ( <1984). Would love to know the title!
PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE OUT THE NAME OF THIS MOVIE!!! There are 2 people (a man and a woman) who find a creepy doll. The doll is a girl with black hair. They give the doll to a store owner and he gives it to his daughter. The stepmom says that the daughter is spoiled or something and sends the girl to her room. The girl starts telling the doll that she’s her only friend. The doll replies back and the girl is like “You can talk!!!!” the doll then replies saying “I can also do more” in a creepy voice. The girl walks out of her room and her stepmom starts yelling at her so the little girl holds the doll out infront of her and the doll hisses and makes the stepmom trip over something and the stepmom falls down the stairs. Then the girl and her doll walk into the hospital room that the stepmom is in and the doll like smothers the stepmom and kills her or something. Theres also another scene where the nanny tells the little girl to take a nap and the little girl gets mad and the doll makes the stuffed animals come to life and the records start flying towards the nanny and the nanny ends up being hung by a jumprope. IDK what the name of this movie is so please help!
Dolly Dearest is what most of you are looking for. The little girl doll. Hates the mom and is mean as hell.
Hi
I’ lookig for info on a preview i saw at the cinema in the 70’s,
it had a girl and boy in the scene playing with musical instruments i believe.
They started to sing ‘tum tiddly um tum’ and a voice in this box with some kind of weird looking doll or puppet says’ tum tum’ much to their surprise. It then say’s ‘sorry i did’nt mean to frighten you’.
I remember feeling quite excited and shocked at this films premise ,but never got to see it.
If only i knew what it was called.
Can anybody out there help?
It still sticks in my mind even all those years later.
Many thanks in advance
