Thanks to Cat Sparks and her irrepressible instinct for finding the best in superbly idiosyncratic design work, I came across this strangely surreal poster for Godzilla vs the Smog Monster.

It’s not like your average Godzilla poster, that’s for sure. I love the visual overlapping of the Big G and Hedorah.
The poster comes from a website that has collected over 200 mostly Polish movie posters from 1940 onward. All that gloomy European weirdness makes any movie look like a horror flick.
For example, check out this one for Cabaret:

Or this one for Amadeus:

Here’s another one, this time for the Mel Brooks comedy Young Frankenstein:

Cool, eh?
Very cool.
In the Young Frankenstein one, don’t you love the prosthetic finger making the fleshy mouth smile on the skull to indicate (presumably) that it’s a comedy!
I love the Polish Godzilla vs. the SmogMonster movie poster. I first saw it back in 1996 at G-Con in Chicago a Godzilla convention. If you look at the poster it either appears to be Hedora the SmogMonster inside of Godzilla. Or it looks like Godzilla is inside of Hedora the SmogMonster. I hope to one day own this polish Godzilla Kontra Hedora movie poster.
I think a lot of fans would feel the same way, David. I’m surprised no one has brought the poster out more widely.
