Today I entered the evil realms of blogdom, where many terrors lurk and unsuspecting innocents disappear, never to be heard from again. My plan is to make this site a place where I post News, Idle Thoughts and Notice of Additions to my main site. Blog technology will, I hope, make the process easier.
It’s probably a good moment to remind anyone who sees this to rush out and grab yourself a copy of Doctor Who Short Trips 20: Destination Prague, which includes not only my Sixth Doctor and Peri story “Gold and Black Ooze” but a wealth of other excellent tales by the likes of fellow Aussies Sean Williams, Stephen Dedman, Lee Battersby and many others. The anthology, which was edited by Steven Savile, is reputed to be one of the best that the official Big Finish series has produced — and from what I’ve read of it non-Whoites have a pretty good chance of enjoying it nearly as much as the Who faithful. So why wait? Go to your nearest online bookstore and order it now!
In case you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the cover:
Well I for one am certainly looking forward to it!
I always hated Peri when I was younger but hated her less in the recent repeats… I\’m glad you didn\’t get stuck with Mel!!
I actually chose the Sixth Doc and Peri. I like the way they interact, particularly as developed in some of the New Adventure novels and I also thought Colin Baker’s interpretation had lots of potential — it was just that he also got stuck with bad scripts and poor production decisions.
On top of that, getting in the anthology was competitive, based on a half-page synopsis, and as they didn’t want too much overlapping of Doctors I figured the Sixth Doctor was the least popular and likely to be neglected. As it turned out, at least one other Sixth Doc and Peri story ended up in the book…
I’m a big fan of the Colin Baker performance, although, as you say, the scripts were often woeful. One image, however, from that run, is as good as anything ever produced– the transparent Dalek with the human crushed inside, from an adventure whose name escapes me. I’ve wanted an action figure of that for years.
I’ve always been a fan of Peri, but that has nothing to do with her acting (ahem)
I only dimly recall, but would that be “Revelation of the Daleks”?
