This just opened in Korea — to a good box-office response, it is said.

Hi, Chris. Yes indeed, everything’s flowing freely so far!

I’ve known this film was coming for a while — the director, Hyung-rae Shim, has been working on it for years. There was a teaser trailer doing the rounds a few months ago, and that looked like it had potential, but this looks awesome now!

I’m afraid that Hyung-rae Shim was responsible for the 1999 giant monster flick Yongarry (released in the US as Reptilian), which wasn’t too good. It suffered badly from a bad script, SFX that were more ambitious than the budget and a few appalling Western actors. We’ve been assured that with D-Wars he has been earnestly trying to get it right — and from the clip it might be true. I know I’ll be nabbing a copy as soon as I can. (Mind you, I buy everything with a giant monster in it!)

There may be a general cinema release. It’s due out in the US under the title Dragon Wars, so if it does OK there, we might get a release here in Australia. One can only hope. Big-screen viewing looks like the go!

Thanks for that link, Todd. With all the potentially exciting developments in giant-monsterdom that are happening at the moment (such as J.J. Abrams’ mystery project, Stone and Parker’s suitmation flick, the Korean The Host and the US remake), it almost makes up for the lack of new Godzilla films….
