Gehara Becomes Geharha On DVD and Blu-Ray

And the good news is that Kiyotaka Taguchi’s short daikaiju eiga Chohatsu Daikaiju Gehara [Long-haired Giant Monster Gehara] (Japan-2009) is being released in Japan on DVD and Blu-Ray, but with English subtitles, under the Anglicised title Geharha, the Dark and Long-Haired Monster. Though the film ran at 17 minutes when it premiered on TV, this new release will include a 21-minute “Director’s Cut”, along with a slew of extras.

Though we were able to watch the film online (check it out here), the thought of seeing it longer and clearer and being able to understand what was being said makes this an exciting prospect.

Thanks for spreading the word about the GEHARHA DVD and Blu-ray. I’ve seen the subtitled version and it’s a very entertaining short film!

One correction: The English spelling of the monster’s name hasn’t been changed for the video release. Check out the video of GEHARHA that’s posted on this site… the movie ends with a “trailer” for a second movie plus English credits for the first. Both have the name spelled in with the second ‘h’ so that’s been the official English spelling since GEHARHA first aired on Japanese TV.

Oops, I never noticed that, Keith. Thanks for pointing it out. And once again, thanks for the typically detailed work you put into your article on the subject.

  3. Avery says:

Thanks Keith! I really loved this little film. It was beyond awesome. Can’t wait till it hits region-1 edisc though. Let’s hope that it does.

When is the 2nd part of the film being released? Anyone know?
