There Goes the Neighbourhood

With the latest rendition of the zombie apocalypse about to hit screens worldwide, it’s perversely comforting to know that one’s hometown hasn’t been spared. World War Z (US-2013; dir. Marc Forster) is due for release on June 20, so the film’s Australian distributors WayToBlue have sent the Backbrain a local City Destruction poster publicising the event, in which the zombie hordes join the tourists visiting Sydney’s iconic destinations: Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Circular Quay. I’m still not sure how I’m going to react to the apparent action-thriller aesthetic of this Hollywood tentpole adaptation of Max Brook’s excellent novel, but I have to say that I’m getting more interested as the days go by.

    Robert,
I’m looking forward to this movie as well, to see how it’s rated (and if it passes a low mark, I’ll go see it, otherwise I’ll wait for the dvd release). Just an FYI, I included your blog (by the name Undead Backbrain) in my latest episode of The Cord Wheaton Saga, Spring Brain. (My episodic zombie series.) The current episode is available as a free download on Amazon/Kindle here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D4S9OIY/. Enjoy, and I look forward to reading more of your blog.

Thanks for the mention, JG. I’ve sent it to my Kindle and will check it out at the first opportunity! Good luck with the book, by the way.
